Korkmaz Ornella A1344 10-Inch 3.5 Liter Non-Stick Low Casserole with Glass Lid
At a Glance
- What it is: A wide, shallow two-handled pot - the Turkish pilav pot - for rice, braises, sauteing and one-pan dinners.
- Size: 26 cm wide x 7 cm deep (10.2 in x 2.75 in), holding 3.5 litres.
- Construction: Cast aluminium with a 5-layer Weilburg PTFE non-stick coating and a silicone exterior finish.
- Cooktops: Solar Base - works on all cooktops INCLUDING induction.
- Origin: Made in Turkey by Korkmaz. 2-year limited warranty.
- ⚠ Before you buy: It is only 2.75 inches deep. This is a wide shallow pot, NOT a Dutch oven or a stockpot. Do not buy it for soups or a whole chicken.
The wide shallow pot is the workhorse of Turkish home cooking, and once you cook in one you understand why: more surface area means better browning, faster evaporation and food that cooks evenly instead of stewing in a deep well. Korkmaz has been making cookware in Turkey since 1927, and the Ornella pairs cast aluminium with a five-layer German Weilburg coating and a base that works on induction.
Key Features
- Wide, shallow shape. 26 cm across, 7 cm deep - maximum surface for browning, minimum depth for stewing.
- Cast aluminium. Heats fast and evenly, and it does not have the cold spots of a thin pressed pan.
- 5-layer Weilburg non-stick. German coating, volcanite look, made without PFOA, cadmium or lead.
- Solar Base - induction compatible. Gas, electric, ceramic and induction.
- Glass lid. Watch what is happening without lifting it and losing the steam.
- Two side handles. Lift a full pot with both hands - the right design for a wide, heavy pan.
- Dishwasher safe. A rare and genuine convenience on a non-stick pot.
Before You Buy
- It is 2.75 inches deep - a braiser, not a Dutch oven. The 3.5 litres is spread wide, not stacked tall. It will not take a whole chicken and it is the wrong pot for a big pot of soup.
- The coating is PTFE. Korkmaz's claim is that it contains no PFOA, cadmium or lead. PTFE is a fluoropolymer. If you are specifically avoiding fluoropolymers, this is not your pan - buy the Gibson Barnsdall ceramic set instead.
- Use it on the stovetop. Stovetop use only. Do not put it in an oven.
- Never use metal utensils. Wood, silicone or nylon. Metal will cut any non-stick coating, however many layers it has.
