Mugs & Drinkware buying guide

Pick mug size by the drink

Espresso cups hold 2.5 to 3 ounces. Classic coffee mugs run 12 to 16 ounces. Oversized mugs of 18 to 21 ounces suit lattes and big teas, and our largest latte mugs hold 32.5 ounces.

Stoneware or porcelain mugs

Stoneware mugs are heavier, with reactive and embossed glazes that make each one a little different. Porcelain mugs are lighter and usually crisp white, which suits espresso and matching sets. Many pair with the white sets in Dinnerware Sets.

Insulated drinkware for on the go

Double-wall vacuum-insulated tumblers and bottles hold temperature far longer than glass or ceramic. Handles, straws, and sealing lids matter more than you think on a commute or a job site. Each listing states its own capacity and features.

Common questions

What size coffee mug should I buy?

For a standard cup of coffee, 12 to 16 ounces is the sweet spot. Go 18 to 21 ounces if you like room for milk or a big tea. Espresso cups at 2.5 to 3 ounces are made for short shots.

Are stoneware mugs microwave safe?

Many of ours are, and the listing says so in the title or specs. Mugs with metallic accents, like gold handles or gold rims, should stay out of the microwave. Check the care notes before reheating.

How long do insulated tumblers keep drinks cold?

It depends on the size and build. Double-wall vacuum-insulated stainless tumblers hold temperature for hours, not minutes. Our Gibson Home Marina tumbler, for example, is rated to keep drinks cold for 12 hours.

What is the difference between a double old fashioned glass and a tumbler?

A double old fashioned is a short, wide glass, usually 13 to 15 ounces, made for drinks over ice. A tumbler is taller and holds 16 ounces or more for water, soda, and iced tea. Several of our glassware sets include both.
