Home canning has one non-negotiable: reaching and holding a verified pressure. The MegaChef MGAC1114 runs at a true 15 PSI, the USDA standard for safely canning low-acid foods, and its 24-quart aluminum body swallows a full load of quart jars or a catering-size batch of stock in a single run.
Is this an electric Instant-Pot-style cooker?
No. It is a manual stovetop pressure cooker you set on a gas or electric burner and control yourself. There are no electronic presets.
Can I use it for pressure canning?
Yes. It reaches 15 PSI with the included regulator and comes with a rack, which is the standard setup for pressure canning low-acid foods.
How much does 24 quarts hold?
It is a large canner and caterer size, enough for a big batch of quart jars or large stockpot volumes, far bigger than a typical everyday pressure cooker.
Do I need a big burner?
Yes. Because of its size it performs best on a large, powerful burner with full contact under the base.
Hand wash the pot, lid, gasket, gauge and valve, and keep them out of the dishwasher so the aluminum and seals last. Inspect and seat the gasket before every use so the safety valves seal correctly. Never fill past two-thirds, or half for foods that foam, and always let the pressure drop fully so the lid unlocks naturally before you open it. Store the pot with the lid resting upside down to protect the gasket between canning days.
MegaChef is a broad value-line kitchen brand spanning cookware, small appliances and cast iron, built for budget-conscious buyers. This aluminum canner reflects that mission: it hits the pressure the USDA calls for and holds enough jars to make a long canning afternoon worth it, at a fraction of a premium canner's price.
